BLACKSBURG – Six Hokie divers are headed to Annapolis, MD to compete in the 2022 NCAA Zone A Championships. Competition will begin on Monday, March 7 and last through Wednesday, March 9.
Miah Fisher, Teagan Moravek, Izzi Mroz, and Alexa Williams will represent Virginia Tech on the women's side and Daniel Valmassei and Noah Zawadzki will compete for the Hokies on the men's side.
All dives, including prelims, will count toward the divers' final score. Divers that qualify for the NCAA Championships in an event are eligible to compete in any other event as long as they finish in the top-12 and achieved a zone qualifying score.
The NCAA consists of five zones. Invite slots vary per zone and are based on performance of the zone's divers in last year's NCAA Championship. During the season, divers must score a certain mark to compete at their respective zone's. Each diver will compete to qualify for an invitation to NCAA Championships.
At last year's zone championship, Teagan Moravek and Izzi Mroz both qualified for the NCAA Championships on their first day of competition, during the 1-meter session. Moravek won first with 593.00 points and Mroz placed fifth with 510.50. In addition, Moravek went on to qualify in the 3-meter portion. Mroz qualified for the 3-meter and platform session.
