Hokies fall short in 70-55 loss to No. 3 NC State in ACC semifinals

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Virginia Tech women's basketball team fell short in a 70-55 loss to the NC State Wolfpack at Greensboro Coliseum Complex Saturday.

The Hokies (23-9) had two players score in double figures, led by Kayana Traylor, who had 18 points and three steals. Georgia Amoore tacked on 12 points and two steals and Azana Baines added six points and two blocks.

Virginia Tech forced 13 NC State turnovers while committing only eight themselves in Saturday's game. The Hokies turned those takeaways into 13 points on the other end of the floor. Traylor's three steals led the way for Virginia Tech.

How It Happened

After falling behind 6-0, Virginia Tech went on a 7-0 run with 8:54 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Taylor Geiman, to take a 7-6 lead. The Hokies then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 17-13.

NC State kept adding to that lead, building a 31-21 advantage before Virginia Tech went on a 6-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Traylor, to narrow its deficit to 31-27, a score that would hold until halftime.

Virginia Tech's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Hokies faced a 54-44 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter.

Virginia Tech could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 70-55. Virginia Tech took advantage of five NC State turnovers in the quarter, scoring seven points off of those takeaways.
