BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech was unable to overcome a surging NC State team on Sunday afternoon, falling 4-1 to 34th-ranked Wolfpack.

The Hokies fell behind in doubles when NC State picked up two wins on Court 2 and Court 3. Ryan Fishback and Jordan Chrysostom, the 16th-ranked doubles pair, led No. 19 Robin Catry and Luca Staeheli, 5-4, but the match was cut short due to clinch rules.

In singles, the Wolfpack worked quickly and took first sets on five of six courts. Carlo Donato grabbed a 6-4 first set on Court 5, then went on to win by retirement.

The match was decided after wins by NC State on Court 5 and Court 6 preceded No. 108 Catry defeating Hugo Maia on Court 2.

Fishback (No. 97) left his match unfinished against No. 82 Rafa Izquierdo Luque on Court 1.
