GAME 2 | Virginia Tech 7, Pittsburgh 2
PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Freshman Emma Lemley picked up where she left off on Friday, striking out 14 Pitt hitters over seven innings of work to help lead the No. 5 Virginia Tech Hokies past the Panthers 7-2.
In addition to her 14 strikeouts, Lemley (10-1) went seven innings, giving up two runs, on four hits and walking none for Virginia Tech (25-3, 11-0).
Sophomore Emma Ritter led the way offensively for the Hokies, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Sophomore Addy Greene provided a solid performance as well, going 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Freshman Bre Peck also chipped in, going 1-for-4 for Virginia Tech with a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hokies got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Virginia Tech's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Greene.
The Panthers failed to push any runs across before the Hokies built on their lead in the sixth inning. Virginia Tech plated two, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Peck, which brought the Hokies lead to 6-0.
Virginia Tech held Pittsburgh scoreless before expanding their lead to 7-0 the following inning. The Hokies recorded a run on Ritter's two-out solo home run off freshman Dani Drogemuller. Pitt scored its two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning but the Hokie defense closed out the doubleheader sweep.
