GAME 2 | No. 5 Virginia Tech 13, Longwood 0
FARMVILLE, Va. -- Sophomore Ivy Rosenberry completed the doubleheader sweep on Tuesday, throwing a no-hitter and striking out four to lead the No. 5 Virginia Tech Hokies past the Longwood Lancers 13-0. This is the first time in school history Tech has pitched back-to-back no-hitters in a doubleheader and against the same opponent. The first two no-hitters in program history were March 26 and 27, 1999. Back-to-back games against Brown and Boston College
Rosenberry (1-0) added her first win of the season to her outstanding performance. The right-hander struck out four and walked two for Virginia Tech (23-3) on her way to her first career no-hitter.
Sophomore Emma Ritter led the way offensively for the Hokies, going 3-for-3 in the ballgame with two doubles and two RBIs. Junior Meredith Slaw went 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run and two RBIs. Freshman Rachel Castine also contributed, going 1-for-1 for Virginia Tech with a home run and three RBIs, the first home run of her Hokie career.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hokies took the lead in the second, scoring for the first time in the inning. Virginia Tech's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a two-run home run off the bat of Slaw and a two-run double from senior Darby Trull.
The Hokies also added runs in the fourth and fifth innings on the way to the 13-0 victory.
