Kannapell earns first career win in Tech’s 14-11 victory over Elon Wednesday

Blacksburg -- The Virginia Tech lacrosse team (8-4, 2-2) earned a 14-11 victory over Elon Wednesday afternoon inside the Beamer-Lawson Indoor Practice Facility.
 
Sarah Lubnow (5 goals) and Sophie Student (3 goals, 1 assist) each recorded hat tricks to lead the Hokies' attack.
 
On the defensive end, Student and Jordan Tilley each caused multiple turnovers and sophomore goalie Lilly Kannapell earned the first decision in her career, making seven saves in the game.
 

How It Happened
VT scored the game's first goal through Hannah Mardiney in the second minute of action, but the Hokies would quickly go down after consecutive goals by the Phoenix. By the end of the first, Elon led 5-4.
 
Kannapell entered the game in the second stanza, which Tech won 4-1 to give them control headed to the second half.
 
In the second half, the Phoenix would pull as close as 9-8 in the third before the Hokies would score two of their own.
