ATLANTA, Ga. – Virginia Tech fell on the road Sunday morning to No. 54 Georgia Tech, 5-2, in the second installment of its ACC road trip.
The Hokies battled for the doubles point, with Alvaro Saez-Royuela Ariza and Scott Sculley earning a 6-3 win on Court 2 before Georgia Tech picked up a win on Court 3. That left the point to be decieded by a top-15 matchup on Court 1 between No. 9 Jordan Chrysostom and Ryan Fishback and No. 13 Andres Martin and Marcus McDaniel. After fighting off a match point while at 5-6, Chrysostom and Fishback went to a tiebreak, which the home side ultimately claimed, 7-1.
In singles, Carlo Donato quickly evened the score for Virginia Tech with a win on Court 5 – 6-4, 6-1.
The Yellow Jackets responded with three wins of their own, capped off by a win on Court 1 by No. 24 Andres Martin over the Hokies' No. 103 Ryan Fishback. Virginia Tech's lone ranked singles player took the second set to a tiebreak, but fell, 7-5.
Alberto Orso wrapped up the day for Virginia Tech with a win in a 10-point tiebreak after dropping his first set. He became the second Italian for Tech to pick a win on the day with his 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 results.
The Hokies return home next weekend for matches against Wake Forest and NC State.
