Hokies put 21 past Radford in big win at home

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech got back to winning ways on Wednesday afternoon, cruising to a 21-3 win over Radford at home. Whitney Liebler and Olivia Vergano led the way with three goals, while Sarah Goodwin had an impressive showing with two goals and two assists.

Along with Liebler, Vergano and Goodwin, Hannah Mardiney, Sarah Lubnow, Paige Tyson and Sam Rippley recorded multiple goals in the contest. In goal, Morgan Berman wasn't tested much, but came up with three saves when called upon.

After an 8-0 first quarter, Tech nearly doubled its lead by half and went into the break up 15-1. The Highlanders reeled it in a bit defensively in the second half, only giving up three goals in each of the last two quarters, while scoring two more in the third.

How It Happened
Only 35 seconds into the game, Virginia Tech's Lubnow scored the first goal while the Hokies were up a player. With 13:40 remaining in the first quarter, Mardiney doubled the lead. Liebler and Vergano then scored the next four goals for Tech. The Hokies eventually saw out the first quarter, adding on two more.

In the second quarter, Liebler and Vergano locked up hat tricks. Radford scored its first goal of the game with 4:45 left in the first half.

After heading into halftime up 15-1, the second half was a bit more tame, as the Hokies scored six more in the final thirty minutes.
