Schenkel Invitational up next for Hokies

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's golf team will take a trip to Statesboro, Georgia for the 42nd annual Schenkel Invitational, Friday through Sunday.

Tech is coming off a fifth-place finish at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, South Carolina. Senior Connor Johnson Jr. posted a top-20 performance for the second straight tournament with a 214 that included a final-round 68 (-2) to lead the Hokies.

Georgia Southern will host its 54-hole tournament at Forest Heights Country Club. There will be 15 teams competing in the tournament, including No. 17 Notre Dame.

This is the Hokies third appearance in the Schenkel Invitational. Tech finished seventh in 2019 with a score of 879 led by Connor Burgess, who finished at 213 (-3).

Burgess, Daniel Azallion, Drew Brockwell, Johnson Jr. and David Stanford will compete for Tech this weekend. Friday's opening round begins at 9 a.m.
