BLACKSBURG – Already off to a hot start in 2022, the Virginia Tech women's golf team will look to sustain its momentum when the Valspar Augusta Invitational gets underway Saturday and Sunday. The 54-hole event will be hosted by Augusta University at Forest Hills Golf Club (par 72, 6,244 yards) in Augusta, Georgia.
In Tech's last tournament, Emily Mahar shot a school-record, 7-under 65 on the way to her third straight top-5 showing at the Florida State Match Up. Mahar's three-day total of 216 tied her for third in the 69-golfer field. As a team, the Hokies placed third at 886 (288-296-302).
Becca DiNunzio, Keerattriya Foocharoen, Symone Henriques and Alyssa Montgomery join Mahar in the Tech lineup this weekend. Kyrsten Shawah will compete as an individual.
The Hokies finished fifth in this tournament last season, carding a 2-under 862 (279-292-291). Tech's opening round of 279 was ignited by Montgomery's 6-under 66 and DiNunzio's 3-under 69.
Forest Hills is set to host 16 teams this weekend, including three from the ACC (Tech, Florida State and Miami). Defending national champion Ole Miss is also in the field.
Teams will play 36 holes on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. The Hokies are paired with South Carolina and Florida State.
