BLACKSBURG – With an impressive first-half run and another consistent shooting performance, Virginia Tech cruised to its fourth-straight win on Monday night against Pitt.
By shooting 52.7 percent from the field last night, the Hokies set a new program record since joining the ACC with five-consecutive games shooting 50 percent or above from the floor.
SET THE TONE
- Despite struggling in the first five minutes, as the Hokies didn't register their first bucket until 14:53 remained in the half, the floodgates eventually opened for Tech.
- Nahiem Alleyne's 3-pointer triggered a 17-0 run for Virginia Tech, in which it shot 6-8 from the field and 4-5 from deep.
- As the Hokies were getting hot on offense, their defensive intensity ramped up and Pitt shot 0-9 from the field between 15:12 and 9:55.
FIRST-HALF FRENZY
- Tech has led at halftime in each of the four games in its current win streak, including by double digits in its last three.
- On Monday night, the Hokies had seven players score in the first half, including four from deep.
- Pitt only scored 17 points in the first half, with 12 coming from Mouhamadou Gueye. That is the lowest tally of a Tech opponent in the first half all season.
- Keve Aluma ended the first half on a solo 7-0 run in the last 1:26, including a 3-pointer as time expired.
- The Hokies are shooting a remarkable 59.6 percent from the field and 61.4 percent from beyond the arc in the first half across the last four games.
OWN THE BOARDS
- The Hokies have had plenty of success rebounding as of late, winning the rebound margin in three-straight games and four of its last five. The lone game that Tech didn't have the advantage on the glass was at Florida State, where the Hokies couldn't seem to miss and had a record-setting shooting performance.
- Last night, Tech had a plus-17 margin on the boards and didn't give up an offensive rebound to an individual player on Pitt, just a team offensive board with 20 seconds remaining.
- The last time a Virginia Tech opponent failed to have an individual record an offensive rebound was on March 10, 2007, when NC State had zero.
MULTIPLE PLAYERS HIT 3'S
- For only the fourth time since joining the ACC, Virginia Tech had six players hit multiple 3-pointers in a single game.
- No more than six players have accomplished the feat for Tech in one game since 2004, and the last time it happened was on March 15, 2005 against Temple.
DIME DROPPERS
- Virginia Tech tied its season high for total assists with 20 against Pitt. The team also had 20 against Miami at home on Jan. 26.
- Sean Pedulla had a career-high seven assists on Monday, including five in the first half that broke his previous personal best of four.
