Greenville, S.C. – Former Virginia Tech men's soccer player Jacob Labovitz has joined the professional ranks, as the forward signed with USL League One side Greenville Triumph SC on Tuesday.
In a release from Greenville on Tuesday, the 2020 League One champions announced the signing of Labovitz, an All-ACC first team selection in the 2021 season.
The Great Falls, Va. native came to Virginia Tech in 2018 following a stint at Fairleigh Dickinson, where he was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year. Labovitz made a profound impact on the Hokies' attack for three seasons. In 2020 and 2021, the forward led Tech in goals scored with nine in each season.
"I'm very excited for Jacob," head coach Mike Brizendine said. "I think Greenville just signed a very talented forward who will do big things for them this year. It's always special to see players come through our program then move on to the next level."
Always seeming to show up at the most important moments, Labovitz recorded seven game-winning goals in his time with Virginia Tech. Those goals included a spectacular hit on the road at Louisville in overtime, a late header against Oregon State in the NCAA Tournament and a walk-off goal in front of a record crowd at Thompson Field against Virginia.
Amidst the Hokies' sixth-consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2021, Labovitz tallied nine goals and four assists. He earned All-ACC accolades for the second season in a row, along with being named the VaSID Player of the Year.
Twice receiving ACC Player of the Week honors and once being named the United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week, Labovitz had four two-goal games in his career. In six NCAA Tournament games, the forward racked up 10 points (two goals, four assists).
Labovitz is the third member of the 2021 Virginia Tech men's soccer team to earn a spot on a professional roster. Sivert Haugli was drafted in the third round of the MLS SuperDraft in January by the Portland Timbers and Tyler Taber recently penned a deal with Racing FC Union Luxembourg.
