Tech drops close match to Xavier

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Virginia Tech dropped a close decision to Xavier on Monday, falling 4-3.
 
The Hokies dropped the doubles point for the first time this season, though Elizabet Danailova and Chhinda Som won their match on Court 3, 7-5. That match marked the first time Danailova and Som competed together this season.
 
In singles, Dariya Radulova, Erika Cheng and Semra Aksu picked up their second wins of the season. All three girls won in straight sets, as Radulova claimed her match 6-3, 6-3, while Cheng won 6-2, 6-4. On Court 6, Aksu prevailed 6-4, 6-1.
 
Tech narrowly missed out on the clinch fourth point on Court 1. Tamara Barad Itzhaki found herself in an intense match for the third time this season and claimed her first set, 6-2. After Xavier grabbed the second set in a tiebreaker, they eventually won the third set, 6-4.
 
The Hokies will return home for a match on Saturday, February 13 against Charlotte at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
