THREE THINGS TO KNOW
Scorching-hot Start:  Virginia Tech is one of 18 remaining undefeated NCAA Division I programs and one of five left in the ACC after the Hokies made easy work of Fordham last weekend in Blacksburg. The Hokies landed 21 of their 32 hits against the Rams for extra bases, slugging .726 for the series while racking up the 27-5 edge in scoring. Tech's offense is among the flashiest in the nation at the start of the season. Through six games, the Hokies are ranked second nationally in slugging percentage (.708), fourth in home runs per game (2.33), tied for fifth in doubles per game (3.50) and ranked seventh in batting average (.366). Tech's relentless approach at the plate is evident in the frequency of its run production; as of Monday, the Hokies have scored during 26 of their 48 offensive innings (54 percent). As powerful as its lineup has been producing, Tech's pitching staff has demonstrated similar dominance, carrying a 2.17 team ERA into the third week of the season.

• Hustlin' Hurley:  Few bats in America are hotter than that of Tech sophomore Jack Hurley, who enters Tuesday's midweek matchup against High Point batting .923 (12-for-13) across his last four games. On Monday, Hurley was named one of College Baseball Newspaper's 15 National Players of the Week for his freakish weekend against Fordham. In three games against the Rams, Tech's second-year outfielder batted .900 (9-for-10), swinging three doubles, a triple and three home runs to yield a 2.300 slugging percentage. Additionally, Hurley drew two walks and was plunked with a pitch, reaching base safely during 12 of his 13 plate appearances. Defensively, he earned his first outfield assist of the season at a critical moment of Saturday's middle game, saving a run at the plate to preserve the Hokies' two-run lead. As of Monday, Hurley possesses the second best batting average among NCAA Division I players (.636) as well as the nation's third best slugging percentage (1.318). He is one of two Hokies who will carry hitting streaks of six games or more into Tuesday's tilt against the Panthers (Eduardo Malinowski).

• Mr. Consistency:  Making the most of his first season in the ACC, fifth-year infielder Eduardo Malinowski arrives at Tuesday's midweek affair having homered in three consecutive games. Having transferred to Tech after a four-year career at Penn, the 2018 Ivy League Rookie of the Year has claimed the early team leads in home runs (four) – tied for the eighth most nationally – and RBIs (10), batting .391 and slugging .957 across his first six games in Blacksburg. Dating back to his 2021 season with the Quakers, Malinowski has hit safely in 15 consecutive collegiate games. More impressively, the six-foot native of Spring, Texas, has recorded a hit during 28 of his last 29 collegiate games, dating back to the final game of his 2019 season.
