Hokies suffer setback against Boston College

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech came up short Sunday afternoon against Boston College, falling 6-1. The Hokies now settle at 1-1 in ACC play after the first weekend of conference competition.

In a tightly contested doubles point, Katie Andreini and Annie Clark played a calculated match on Court 1. The duo cruised to a 6-2 victory, leaving it to Court 2 and Court 3 to clinch the point. After Boston College took Court 2, it came down to an intense battle with Charlotte Cartledge and Semra Aksu, who ultimately fell, 7-5.

Transitioning to singles, the Hokies struggled out of the gate and lost the first set on four courts. Erika Cheng battled into a tiebreak on Court 5, ultimately winning it, 8-6. She picked up the Hokies lone win of the day, 7-6, 6-4.

Elizabet Danailova, Tamara Barad Itzhaki and Andreini put together late charges in their second sets, but couldn't close the deal.

Dariya Radulova went to super tiebreaker on Court 3, but fell in a marathon game – 13-11.

The Hokies will be back in action next weekend on the road against Duke and North Carolina.
