BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech won its sixth game in seven attempts last night, as the Hokies registered a season sweep of Georgia Tech.
Despite struggling from beyond the arc, the Hokies used a double-double from Keve Aluma and 12 points from Darius Maddox off the bench to earn the 62-58 victory.
FROM THE BENCH
- In 18 minutes of action, Maddox added 12 points from the bench, which is good for the second-most points he's scored in ACC play.
- Between 11:50 and 8:32 in the second half, Maddox accounted for 10-straight points for the Hokies in a 10-2 run. The game was knotted at 41 before the sophomore took Tech's lead to eight.
- Maddox, Sean Pedulla and David N'Guessan combined for 25 points while shooting 55.6% (10-18) from the field.
NOTABLE WIN
- The second matchup between the Hokies and Georgia Tech this season marked the fifth time the two sides have played each other twice in the regular season.
- Wednesday night's win was the second time that Virginia Tech has swept the series, with the last occurrence coming in the 2018-19 season.
- The win also marked the first time the Hokies have won three-straight ACC road games since the 2017-18 season, when they downed Notre Dame, Boston College and Virginia away from home.
MAKING NOISE IN THE PAINT
- The Hokies recorded a season-high 15 offensive rebounds against Georgia Tech, as Aluma, Mutts and Pedulla hauled in three apiece.
- Tech's 39 rebounds were the second-most in ACC play this season, behind 41 against Syracuse on Feb. 19.
- Aluma's 12 points and 10 boards clinched his fifth double-double of the season, leaving him one shy of his double-double tally from 2020-21.
