GREENVILLE, S.C. – Virginia Tech and Furman went down to the wire on Sunday afternoon with the Paladins downing the Hokies, 4-3.
In doubles, Katie Andreini and Annie Clark dropped a tight match on Court 1 – 7-6 – following their victory against the No. 3 doubles team in the country on Friday. Tech also fell on Court 2 and Court 3 to give Furman a 1-0 lead.
The Hokies put together a solid showing in singles, started off by Erika Cheng on Court 4 picking up a 6-0, 6-2 win. She was joined in the win column by Rita Pinto on Court 2, downing her opponent, 6-2, 7-5.
With the score at 3-2 following Furman winning on Court 1 and Court 5, Elizabet Danailova and Katie Andreini were in third sets in both of their matches.
Andreini pulled through on Court 6 with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win, but Furman clinched the match with a win on Court 3.
