Andreini and Clark knock off No. 3-ranked duo from No. 17 ODU

NORFOLK, Va. – Katie Andreini and Annie Clark pulled off an incredible result in doubles, defeating the No. 3-ranked duo of Yulia Starodubtseva and Tatsiana Sasnouskaya, 6-4. Virginia Tech ultimately fell, 4-1, in Norfolk to No. 17 Old Dominion before pulling off a 7-0 sweep against Norfolk State on Friday evening.

The Hokies clinched the double points with wins on Court 1 and Court 3. Andreini and Clark's upset on Court 1, the biggest win in doubles of the young season for Tech, set the Hokies up for a clinch. Erika Cheng and Rita Pinto came through in a tiebreak on Court 3, winning 7-6(4).

Tech carried its momentum into singles and earned first-set wins on Court 4-6 through Cheng, Andreini and Charlotte Cartledge. Cheng and Andreini were on the verge of going into a third set when the Monarch pulled through with wins on Court 1-3, followed by a three-set win against Cartledge on Court 5. 

NORFOLK STATE
The Hokies went into the evening match with plenty of energy, sweeping doubles. Clark and Andreini built on their huge win from earlier, while Cheng and Rita Pinto earned a 6-2 win on Court 2. Sabina Richtrova and Chhinda Som also made their debut together and picked up a 6-2 victory of their own.

In singles, it was more dominance by the Hokies on all six courts. 

Tamara Barad Itzhaki cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win on Court 1, while Sabina Richtrova picked up a 6-2, 6-0 victory on Court 5 in her singles debut this season.

Charlotte Cartledge, Semra Aksu and Annie Clark all sweeped their matches in straight sets with 6-0, 6-0 wins. 

Dariya Radulova was the lone player to go more than two sets, but came through with a win in the super tiebreak – 6-2, 1-6, 1-0(3).
