Women’s 800 free relay breaks school record during first day of competition

ATLANTA – The Hokies came to compete during the first day of the ACC Championships. The women's 1-meter diving prelims started the morning, followed by the men's 3-meter. Teagan Moravek earned the highest score for the Hokies with 260.20 points, putting her just outside the finals in tenth. During the men's 3-meter, Noah Zawadkzi qualified for the finals with a fifth-place score, 345.60. Later in the finals, Zawadzki placed seventh with a score of 318.90
 
The 800 free relay was the only swimming event of the day. The Virginia Tech men's and women's teams each earned fourth place. The women's relay with Emma Atkinson, Sarah Shackelford, Rose Pouch, and Reka Gyorgy smashed the school record by two seconds, finishing with a time of 7:01.32. Atkinson swam a person best and second fastest time in school history as the leadoff of the relay. 
 
The men's relay with Blake Manoff, Carles Coll Marti, Luis Dominguez, and Antani Ivanov finished with a time of 6:14.19, the second fastest time in school history. They were only two one-hundredths of a second away from the school record. The Hokies finished in fourth, earning the ninth fastest time in the country.
