Hokie ClubBLACKSBURG – The Hokies are traveling to Atlanta, Georgia to compete in the 2022 ACC Championships beginning Tuesday, Feb 15 and concluding Saturday, Feb 19.
Both the men's and women's teams climbed the ranks in the latest CSCAA poll. The men rose to No. 8, their highest place of the season, and the women landed at No. 22, ranking fifth-highest in the ACC. Virginia Tech is returning to the championships looking to build on their record-breaking finishes in last year's competition.
The women finished with a total of 832, almost double their score from the previous year (469). In previous years, they have finished towards the middle of the pack in eighth. Last year, they landed fourth place behind Virginia, NC State and Louisville.
The Hokie men finished third overall, their highest program finish in six years. They had a total of 1085 points, behind Louisville and NC State. They broke 11 school records and earned 11 medals throughout the competition.
COMMENWEALTH CLASH
Following a halt during the 2019-20 academic year due to COVID-19 implications, the Commonwealth Clash has been renewed and has a new presenting sponsor in Smithfield. The Commonwealth Clash is a friendly, statewide rivalry between Virginia Tech and Virginia and their school-sponsored sports, with 22 individual event points on the line. The school that accumulates 11.5 points or more has been annually crowned the winner and takes home the Commonwealth Clash trophy, presented by Smithfield.
