Lacrosse program begins 2022 with 15-6 loss at No. 18 Jacksonville

The Virginia Tech lacrosse team got its 2022 campaign underway with a tilt at nationally-ranked Jacksonville Saturday, falling 15-6.

The Dolphins saw two players, Molly Brock and Sarah Elms record hat tricks in the game as nine different athletes scored.

Tech got two goals each from midfielder Sophie Student and attacker Sarah Lubnow.

How It Happened
Tech got on the board first through Hannah Mardiney who scored less than five minutes into her VT debut. From there, the Dolphins took control, scoring six goals to close the first quarter up 6-1.

By half, Tech trailed 9-1.

In the second half the Hokies made a run, scoring four consecutive goals in the third quarter to close the gap to 10-5 heading into the final frame. Jacksonville would add to their advantage, however with five unanswered goals.

Sarah Lubnow scored the game's final goal with 13 seconds remaining.

» Two Hokies earned their first career starts in the game; Paige Tyson and Olivia Vergano. Additionally, transfer Hannah Mardiney got her first start in a VT uniform. Five of the Hokies' starting group own three or fewer career collegiate starts including; Mary Griffin, Kacie Hanson and Sophie Student.
» Sarah Lubnow added two points to her career total, bringing her up to 123.
» In goal, Morgan Berman made nine saves. It was the ninth time in her career that she recorded nine or more saves in a contest.

The Hokies will travel to James Madison on Wednesday, February 16 for a clash at 5 p.m.
