BLACKSBURG – Despite Tamara Barad Itzhaki picking up a three-set win on Court 1 against No. 79 Margaux Maquet, Virginia Tech fell to Charlotte on Saturday afternoon.
The Hokies dropped the doubles point against the 49ers after falling on Court 1 and Court 3, while Erika Cheng and Chhinda Som were leading 5-4 when the match was called.
Charlotte's success continued in singles, as it grabbed five victories in straight sets for a 6-1 win. Notably for the Hokies, Elizabet Danailova and Charlotte Cartledge made their first appearances in singles of the season.
The bright spot of the day came from Barad Itzhaki on Court 1, as she picked up her second win of the season. It was a notable win, as well, as she downed No. 79 Maquet for Virginia Tech's first ranked win of the season. Barad Itzhaki fought her way to a tiebreak win in the first set before dominating the third set, 6-0, for the win.
