Flynn captures Dan Lehman F&M Open title

Blacksburg, Va. – No. 10 Virginia Tech sent six grapplers to the Dan Lehman F&M Open in Lancaster, Penn. on Friday, with three Hokies placing. Freshamn Cooper Flynn (125) ran away with the title, while redshirt junior Dakota Howard (197) placed second and freshman Clayton Ulrey finished third at 165. 
 
Competing unattached, freshman Cooper Flynn won his F&M Open title in dominant fashion with a 12-3 major decision victory over Navy's Jacob Allen in the finals. Flynn went 4-0 on the day, racking up a total of three bonus point victories en route to the lone title for the Hokies.

Competing attached, Howard went 4-1 including defeating No. 25 JT Brown from Army 5-3 in the Round of 16. Howard dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 27 Max Shaw of UNC in the finals. Howard also picked up three bonus point victories en route to his second-place finish.
 
Freshman Clayton Ulrey (165) also brought back a third-place finish to Blacksburg. Ulrey went 4-0 before forfeiting out the rest of the tournament upon reaching the semifinals. Ulrey also picked up a 3-2 decision victory in the quarterfinals to upset Army's No. 32 Dalton Harkins. Also competing attached was freshman James Brown who went 0-2 on the day.
 
Rounding out Tech's unattached competitors, Preston Walls (141) went 1-2, Jackson Spires (157) picked up two victories but fell in the consolations to go 2-2, and AJ Dempsey (174) recorded a 2-2 record on the day.
