Hokie ClubBuilding off its run to the second round of the 2021 NCAA tournament, the Virginia Tech women's soccer team is beyond proud to welcome each and every member of its 2022 signing class as part of the next generation in its program-long tradition of family. During the weeks to come, Tech will eagerly introduce its newest class of Hokies one by one as the program excitingly looks forward to its return to the pitch.
BLACKSBURG – Courtney Andersen is a five-foot-six midfielder who hails from Clifton, Virginia, where she was a National Honors Society member at Centreville High School. Third in her family to compete as a Power Five student-athlete, she holds 10 years of academy experience, including her seven-year tenure at The St. James FC Virginia (TSJFCV).
"We are very excited to announce Courtney's signing and welcome her to our Virginia Tech family," said head coach Chugger Adair. "She is somebody we see who can fit in great with our culture both on and off the field.
"Courtney has strong leadership capabilities, an ability to see the field and great vision around her. She can not only make our team better, but she can bring her teammates into the game to make them stronger. We cannot wait to have her join us on campus."
From the central midfield, Andersen grew through the academy ranks at TSJFCV, captaining the club under coaches Christian Cziommer and Bobby Puppione. Together with fellow Tech newcomer Taylor Price, she most recently co-led TSJFCV on a deep postseason run, reaching the 2021 Girls Academy Under-17 national championship match.
Two years prior, Andersen was named to the 2019 United Soccer Coaches Youth Girls All-Central Region Team, sharing in all-region honors with current Tech stars Victoria Haugen (All-Central) and Alia Skinner (All-South). Among her training, she has been a U.S. Soccer Youth National Team Identification Center invitee and has competed within the Washington Spirit Advanced Development Program.
Andersen comes from an athletic family as her two older siblings, Ashley and Nicholas, have both competed at the NCAA Division I level. Ashley captained the Georgia women's soccer team, finishing her four-year career during the 2020-21 season, while Nicholas is currently an All-ACC safety on the Wake Forest football team.
Why Virginia Tech? "I decided to commit to Virginia Tech because it was the best fit for me – not only as a student-athlete, but from a school and location perspective. It was the perfect place for me."
What was your favorite takeaway from your visit to Blacksburg? "My favorite thing about my visit was being able to experience student-athlete life at Tech as well as being able to meet my future teammates."
What do you like about the Tech women's soccer program? "I really like the atmosphere. Everyone fights for each other and plays for each other."
What are your soccer strengths? "My strengths as a player are my field vision, my passing range and my competitiveness."
Who is your favorite professional player? "Kevin de Bruyne, because his field vision and ability to control the game through his midfield play really stand out to me. I try to implement these into my play as well."
What is your most memorable soccer moment? "My most memorable soccer moment was when my club team (TSJFCV) reached the 2021 Girls Academy national championship match. Although we lost on penalty kicks, the entire journey to make it to that point is something I will never forget."
What are you interested in studying at Virginia Tech? "I plan to major in marketing management because it will allow me to use my creativity and business skills in a variety of industries."
What is one thing you would want Tech fans to know about you? "I have two dogs named Quincy and Tucker."
