THE SERIES

  • Tech will be looking to snap a six-game losing skid in the Florida State series Saturday.
  • The Seminoles lead the all-time series, 36-22.
  • The first game of the series was played on Dec. 14, 1968 in Blacksburg - a 77-74 win for the Hokies.
  • Tech has not won in Tallahassee since Feb. 24, 1990 - 84-74.
  • The two sides did not meet during the 2020-21 season.
  • Two of the previous three meetings have gone to overtime.

A WIN WOULD...

  • Mark the Hokies' first win over FSU since a 96-85 victory in the 2016 ACC Tournament at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.
  • Be Coach Young's first win over the Seminoles as a head coach.
  • Hand the Seminoles their second straight loss of the season and second at home (8-1).
  • Snap the Hokies' three-game losing streak, moving them to 3-7 in the ACC in the process.
  • Keep the Hokies from dropping below .500 for the first time since Nov. 14, 2015 (0-1).

HOKIES HEADLINES

  • Keve Aluma led the Hokies in scoring for the 12th time this season, pouring in 14 points in Wednesday's 78-75 loss vs. Miami. It was his 15 straight game scoring in double figures.
  • Justyn Mutts flirted with a triple-double against the Hurricanes, finishing with nine points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.
  • Tech tied its season high of 3-pointers made in a single game by knocking down 13 of 26 vs. Miami.
  • Aluma (976) and Mutts (986) are both on track to reach 1,000 career points this season.

JUSTYN MUTTS: ELITE PASSER

  • Mutts had a career-high eight assists against Miami, the most of any Tech player in a single game this season.
  • They were the most assists in a game by a Virginia Tech player since Wabissa Bede had eight against Longwood on Dec. 21, 2020.
  • Bede was also the last player to record eight or more assists in an ACC game (nine at Wake Forest on Jan. 14, 2020).

PILLAR OF THE PROGRAM

  • When asked about his assessment of Hunter Cattoor and the impact on the program, Coach Young responded, "Pretty ... good. Couldn't imagine life without him. He's a pillar of this program. He's one that we have built this program with. He may not pass the eye test at times, but you know what you're going to get. He's brilliant, just a smart basketball guy."
