GREENSBORO, N.C. – Barbora Malíková and Jake Spotswood were named ACC Performers of the Week on Tuesday afternoon following their performances at the Hokie Invitational.
Malíková earned the honor for Women's Track after delivering an exceptional debut performance for the Hokies. The freshman from the Czech Republic took the win on Friday in the women's 600m with a time of 1:28.02. The 2020 Olympian's time ranks first in the NCAA this season, third in the world, and second all-time at Virginia Tech.
Spotswood took home Men's Field Performer of the Week thanks to his historic heptathlon at this previous weekend's meet. The grad transfer from Alabama posted a two-day score of 5,731 points across the competition's six events, breaking the Hokies' previous school record by 381 points. Spotswood's school record heptathlon now ranks No. 1 in the NCAA this year and No. 3 in the world.
The two newcomers for the Hokies helped the Tech track and field teams into No. 13 and No. 14 national rankings on the women's and men's sides, respectively, in the USTFCCCA's first national poll, released on Monday.
Virginia Tech returns to action this weekend at the VMI Winter Relays in Lexington, Va.
