Hokies to host Cassell Jam Night against Miami

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech returns to Cassell Coliseum for the first time in three games on Wednesday evening for a matchup with ACC leader Miami.

THE SERIES

  • Tech carries a two-game win streak in the series into Wednesday's ACC clash with Miami.
  • The Hurricanes lead the all-time series, 24-19. The first game of the series was played on Jan. 10, 2001 in Blacksburg.
  • Tech has won five of the previous seven head-to-head meetings. The previous three games have been decided by a combined 13 points.
  • The Hokies swept the season series in 2020-21. It was the first sweep in the series by Tech since 2018-19 when the team beat the Canes twice in the regular season and then again in the 2019 ACC Tournament.
  • Tech is 10-8 all-time against Miami in Blacksburg, including an 80-78 triumph at Cassell last season. 

A WIN WOULD...

  • Extend the Hokies' two-game win streak in the Miami series.
  • Be Coach Young's third win over the Hurricanes, improving to 3-4 all-time.
  • Hand the Hurricanes their second straight road loss of the season (3-1).
  • Improve Tech to 7-2 at home this season. 

HOKIE HEADLINES

  • Keve Aluma led the Hokies in scoring for the 11th time this season, pouring in 19 points in Monday's 78-68 loss at North Carolina. It was his 14 straight game scoring in double figures.
  • Justyn Mutts notched his first double-double of the season at North Carolina (18 points, 10 rebounds), while 53.3 percent from the floor.
  • Hunter Cattoor and Nahiem Alleyne combined to shoot 5 for 10 from beyond the arc at UNC. They scored 13 and 10 points, respectively.
  • Aluma (962) and Mutts (977) are both on track to reach 1,000 career points this season.
