BLACKSBURG -- The Virginia Tech women's basketball team (14-4, 6-1) returns to the court on Sunday afternoon when they take on fourth-ranked NC State (17-2, 8-0) in a matchup of the top teams in the ACC.

The Hokies defeated rival Pitt 75-65 Thursday behind four scorers in double figures including center Elizabeth Kitley who scored a game-high 27 points. Tech has reeled off three consecutive victories to reach the 6-1 mark in conference play, the best start to the ACC season in program history.

The Wolfpack earned an impressive 68-59 comeback victory over No. 3 Louisville Thursday at home. Three State players scored in double figures led by Diamond Johnson's 16 points off the bench.

THE SERIES

  • Virginia Tech is 2-23 all-time against NC State. Last season Tech earned the program's highest ranked win ever when they beat the second-ranked Wolfpack 83-71 in OT on Jan. 28, 2021 at Cassell Coliseum. In that game, the Hokies tied an NCAA record scoring 28 points in OT and Aisha Sheppard's 18 alone is the most ever by a single player in an OT session.
  • VT is 1-18 against the Wolfpack in ACC play.
  • VT is 0-11 against NC State in games played at Reynolds Arena.

A WIN WOULD…

  • Signal a 7-1 start to ACC play for the first time in program history.
  • Be Tech's third over a ranked program this season. The last time that VT accomplished that feat was 2004-05.
