BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech men's tennis head coach Jim Thompson announced the addition of freshman Alberto Orso on Wednesday. Orso, a native of Vincenza, Italy, will join the Hokies for their upcoming spring season.
Orso, a 2020 graduate of Istituto Paritario Alessandro Volta, competed at the Italian Federation Center in Bari, Italy.
An accomplished competitor on the ITF Junior circuit, Orso was ranked as high as No. 138 in ITF Junior rankings and No. 2133 in ITF Pro rankings. He was a finalist in the ITF Junior event in Corfu, Greece, and owns two ITF Junior doubles titles. Orso's ranking earned him the opportunity to compete in the ITF Junior Grand Slams in 2020, although the competitions did not take place due to COVID-19.
Orso is the son of Martina Schiavo and Stefano Orso, and has four siblings. He plans to study industrial and System Engineering.
