Amaré Barno named to Ted Hendricks Award watch list

CHICAGO – Virginia Tech football DE Amaré Barno has been added to the 2021 Ted Hendricks Award watch list, the Ted Hendricks Foundation announced Wednesday.

The award honors its namesake, Ted Hendricks, the first three-time first-team All-American and weighs on-field performance with an exceptional winning attitude, leadership qualities, contributions to the school and community, and academic preparedness to determine its winner. The final watch list will be released prior to voting in late November and the 2021 Ted Hendricks Award winner will be announced on Dec. 8.

Barno (6-6, 245) is tied for second on the team in tackles for loss this season after recording 3.5 TFL including 1.5 sacks versus North Carolina (9/3). The Blythewood, South Carolina native was a 2020 All-ACC Honorable Mention after leading all Power 5 players with 16.0 TFL, a mark that was tied for third in the FBS. Prior to the season, Barno was named to the Preseason All-ACC Team and the 2022 Reese's Senior Bowl watch list.
