Hokies prepare for start of preseason football camp

BLACKSBURG  Virginia Tech football returns to the field for the start of fall camp with practice getting underway on Thursday. Players report on Wednesday and will participate in media day. 
 
Virginia Tech football media day will begin Wednesday at 2:45 p.m. ET with Coach Fuente's press conference, which will be live streamed on hokiesports.com. Offensive and defensive coordinators Brad Cornelsen and Justin Hamilton will follow Fuente, as well as several student-athletes. Videos of the press conferences from the main podium will be posted to hokiesports.com.

Opening day of camp begins on Thursday morning as the team will take the field together for the first time since the spring. Preseason camp will run for just over three weeks, taking the team up to game week for the season opener versus North Carolina on Friday, Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. televised on ESPN. Click here to purchase tickets for the Hokies' home opener against the Tar Heels.
 
In the middle of camp, Virginia Tech football invites all supporters of the Hokies to Fan Appreciation Day, presented by Virginia529, taking place at the Beamer-Lawson Practice Facility on Sunday, Aug. 15. Attendance and parking for the event are free. Fans are also invited to participate in the Hokie Club Fan Day 5K, which can be completed at their convenience, either in Blacksburg or from afar. Following the 2020 season, the Hokies return 23 starters (minimum four starts in 2020), including preseason All-ACC honorees DE Amaré Barno and TE James Mitchell. Other notable returners include QB Braxton Burmeister, who owns a 3-1 record as Tech's starter, WRs Tayvion Robinson and Tre Turner, DB Chamarri Conner, who led the team with 81 tackles a year ago, and LB Dax Hollifield.
