BLACKSBURG – With the excitement of welcoming fans back to Blacksburg and Lane Stadium, the Virginia Tech athletics department is calling upon all fans to participate in the "Triumph Together" fundraising initiative which will be held Sept. 1-3.
During past initiatives such as Drive for 25 Day in 2018 and the Drive for 25 Blitz in 2019, the Hokie Club has called upon fans and alumni to make a financial commitment to the Hokies. This year's Triumph Together initiative looks to raise the bar once again after strong growth in membership over the last year, nearing closer to the Drive for 25 goal of 25,000 Hokie Club members.
"We appreciate all those individuals who have joined the Hokie Club as part of the Drive for 25," said Brad Wurthman, Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Operations. "As we continue to provide a positive experience for more than 550 student-athletes, we're calling on Hokies from all over the world to participate in Triumph Together. Whether it's joining for the first time or sharing news and updates through emails and social media, current Hokie Club members and new supporters can make an impact on the lives of Hokie student-athletes over the course of those two and a half days."
Thanks to the tremendous support of many loyal donors, matching gifts of up to $10,000 for each sport have been secured as a part of the event. These matching gifts are a key component in helping each sport reach their fundraising goals. In addition, a variety of challenges and contests will be held throughout to help encourage participation.
"In order to be the premier athletics program in the conference, we need every Hokie on board," Tech Director of Athletics Whit Babcock said. "We are stronger when we're all headed in the same direction. Fundraisers of this type help enhance the operating budgets of all sports, and regardless of your giving level, you can make an impact on our future."
Current donors or those looking to help grow the Hokie Club membership are asked to participate as Triumph Together ambassadors. Those who sign up to be ambassadors will receive a toolkit that includes ways to encourage other Tech fans to give, including by using one's email contacts and social media accounts to educate on how contributions make a difference in the lives of student-athletes. Each ambassador receives a custom URL link to track the number of gifts that they bring in as a part of Triumph Together. A variety of prizes and incentives will also be available including tickets, experiences, and discounts.

Knowing the tremendous passion of Hokie Nation, Virginia Tech Athletics and the Hokie Club expect thousands of alumni, students, faculty, staff, family, and friends to participate by donating to the areas of athletics that resonate with them. The ultimate goal is to raise over $1 million in the 2.5-day initiative and increase the membership of the Hokie Club to 25,000 members – a goal originally announced Dec. 12, 2016 with the official launching of the Drive for 25 campaign. Today, the membership consists of over 22,000 members, making this campaign critical to achieving our goal.
