BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech baseball team announced on Wednesday that the program will be conducting a walk-on tryout on Thursday, Aug. 26, at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park, beginning at 4 p.m.
Any and all Tech students who are interested in competing for a 2022 roster spot must attend and must first be medically cleared to participate by Kyle Staggers, director of sports medicine for baseball. To be medically cleared, all participants must complete and/or submit the following mandatory information to Staggers via email (kyleas8@vt.edu) before Aug. 24:
- Submit three completed forms: Sports Medicine Tryout Guidelines for Baseball (white sheet); New Student-Athlete Preparticipation Physical Evaluation (blue sheet); Athlete Information Sheet (orange sheet)
- Provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination OR proof of a negative COVID-19 test within seven days of the tryout date
- Provide/obtain sickle cell trait test results
- Provide proof of health insurance
- Meet with Staggers to review cardiac/prior medical history
Students are also asked to email Staggers to set up an appointment to discuss all aspects of their medical clearance.
Participants who have been cleared to compete should expect a full baseball workout and should bring all necessary equipment – including but not limited to cleats, glove, bat and helmet – and should be dressed in baseball pants and a hat. Questions regarding the walk-on tryout may be directed to Corey Haines, director of baseball operations.
Per university protocols, masks are required indoors regardless of vaccination status.
