BLACKSBURG, Va. --Freshman Carson Jones collected five RBIs to help propel the Virginia Tech Hokies over the Toledo Rockets 16-5 on Sunday.
Junior Shane Connolly (2-2) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Virginia Tech (27-17). The southpaw went three shutout innings while giving up one hit, allowing no walks and striking out three. Sophomore Chris Gerard also made an impact on the mound for the Hokies, starting the ballgame and throwing two scoreless innings while allowing one hit, with one walk and four strikeouts.
Jones went 3-for-6 with a home run in addition to his five RBIs for the Hokies. Senior Tanner Thomas put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-1 with a double, three walks and two RBIs. Sophomore Kevin Madden also helped out for Virginia Tech, putting together three hits in three trips to the plate while adding three RBIs.
