BLACKSBURG, Va. --The No. 23 Virginia Tech Hokies rallied to score three in the ninth inning and walked it off on a two-run single off the bat of sophomore Kevin Madden to pick up the 6-5 win over the Boston College Eagles Friday.

Freshman Griffin Green (1-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Virginia Tech (14-9, 10-7). The right-hander went 2.2 shutout innings, giving up one hit, no walks and striking out four. Junior Anthony Simonelli started the ballgame and went five innings, surrendering four runs, three earned, on four hits, walking two and striking out six.

In the batter's box, the Hokies were paced by Madden, who went 3-for-5 on the day with three RBIs. Senior Tanner Thomas compiled a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 0-for-2 with three walks. Freshman Jack Hurley also contributed for Virginia Tech, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.

Trailing 5-0, the Hokies first put runs on the board in the seventh inning. Virginia Tech scored twice, with one run coming across on freshman Lucas Donlon's single.

The Hokies kept the Eagles off the board before narrowing the gap further in the eighth. Virginia Tech scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Madden, which tightened the Eagles lead to 5-3.

Virginia Tech kept its deficit in check, holding Boston College scoreless before scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth to claim victory, walking it off on a two-run single off the bat of Madden.
