BLACKSBURG, Va. --Junior Anthony Simonelli and sophomore Graham Firoved combined to toss a shutout on Saturday as the No. 17 Virginia Tech Hokies blanked the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 7-0.

Simonelli (4-0) started and picked up the win for Virginia Tech (20-11, 15-8), going six shutout innings while giving up two hits, walking two, and striking out six. Firoved was dealing out of the bullpen as well, going three shutout innings, allowing two hits, walking one and striking out five.

Freshman Cade Swisher led the way offensively for the Hokies, going 3-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run, a walk and four RBIs. Senior Tanner Thomas put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-2 with a triple, two walks and an RBI. Freshman Tanner Schobel also chipped in, going 2-for-4 for Virginia Tech with a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hokies took the lead for good in the second, scoring for the first time in the inning. Virginia Tech got an RBI single from Swisher, scoring Thomas from second base.

The Hokies then tacked on runs in the fourth, sixth, and eighth innings, with their biggest output coming in the sixth when they scored three times. Two of those three runs scored on a two-run homer from Swisher.
