BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech's Jacob Labovitz has been named to the South Region's second team by the United Soccer Coaches.
The Great Falls, Va. native netted nine goals in his senior campaign, along with recording four assists. Two of Labovitz's goals were game winners, including an overtime goal on Sept. 17 at Thompson Field against Virginia. That goal gave Tech its first home win against its in-state rivals since 2004, and earned Labovitz ACC Offensive Player of the Week recognition.
In November, Labovitz was named first team All-ACC – joining teammates Mayola Kinyua and Danny Flores in receiving conference honors.
Labovitz's 22 points led the squad, marking the second season in a row that the forward has accomplished that feat.
Throughout his three-year career at Virginia Tech, Labovitz gained a reputation for scoring goals in big games. His combined three goals against Virginia and College Cup side Notre Dame, both home games decided in overtime, attest to that, along with scoring Tech's lone goal in the NCAA Tournament draw against West Virginia.
Last season, Labovitz scored two goals – including an overtime winner – against Oregon State in the NCAA Tournament that sent the Hokies to their fourth 'Sweet Sixteen' in five years.
Labovitz's wrapped up his stay at Virginia Tech with 23 goals and nine assists, although his career tally is at 32 following a two-year stint with Fairleigh Dickinson. While at FDU, he was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year.
