Hokies fall 59-40 at Liberty Tuesday night

LYNCHBURG, VA --Aisha Sheppard and Emily Lytle combined to score 25 total points but the Hokies fell to the Liberty Lady Flames 59-40 on the road Tuesday.

Sheppard led the Hokies (7-3) with 17 points, nine rebounds and two steals. Elizabeth Kitley tacked on seven points, seven rebounds and two blocks and Lytle helped out with eight points off of the bench.

Kitley pulled down three offensive rebounds to lead an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Virginia Tech, grabbing 11 boards and turning them into 12 second chance points.

Virginia Tech did a great job disrupting Liberty shots in the contest, coming away with six blocks. Kitley's two rejections led the way individually for the Hokies.

How It Happened

Virginia Tech struggled out of the gate, falling behind 15-6 at the end of the first quarter.

The Hokies continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 30-19 halftime deficit.

Liberty continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 32-20 advantage before Virginia Tech went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Kitley, to trim its deficit to 32-25 with 7:24 to go in the third. Liberty countered and stretched its lead to 43-32 heading into the fourth. Virginia Tech knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 13 total points.

Virginia Tech could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 59-40. Virginia Tech took advantage of six Liberty turnovers in the quarter, scoring two points off of those takeaways.
