Dear Hokie Nation,
The past few days have been a whirlwind! To say that it's a dream come true to lead the Virginia Tech football program would be an understatement. I appreciate the incredible privilege and the great responsibility that comes along with serving as your new head coach. The way that Hokie Nation has already embraced Amy and our family has been phenomenal. We couldn't have asked for a warmer welcome to Blacksburg and we can't wait to see all of you jumping at Lane Stadium next season!
To have Coach Beamer and Coach Foster sitting right there at my introductory press conference, I can't tell you what that meant to me. I've admired those two for so long and they have played such a vital role in who I am and how I have evolved as a coach. I'll forever be indebted to them for taking a chance on me as a graduate assistant back in 1995. All of these years later, I still carry with me so many lessons I learned from them as a young coach. Treating people right and developing young men as leaders will continue to be bedrocks of this program.
Attracting the right kind of players who fit Virginia Tech and our program is also something that won't change. There is so much talent in Virginia and across this region. We will continue to build relationships with high school head coaches across our state and this part of the country as we bring young men HOME to Blacksburg. There's so much to love about Virginia Tech. If you're a top high school football player, you're going to want to be a Hokie.
As I told Jon Laaser and Mike Burnop, there was a very short list of programs that could lure me away from Penn State. And I'll assure you 100 percent that Virginia Tech was at the top of that list. There's plenty of work to do and it's going to take a sustained effort to get the results we all want. But I know this, the only way we can do it is with the support and loyalty of Hokie Nation. Let's do this together!
Go Hokies!
