Building off its run to the second round of the 2021 NCAA tournament, the Virginia Tech women's soccer team is beyond proud to welcome each and every member of its 2022 signing class as part of the next generation in its program-long tradition of family. During the weeks to come, Tech will eagerly introduce its newest class of Hokies one by one as the program excitingly looks forward to its return to the pitch.
BLACKSBURG – Taylor Price is a five-foot-six attacker who hails from Ashburn, Virginia, where she was a decorated multi-sport varsity student-athlete at Briar Woods High School. Named to the 2021 All-Virginia High School League (VHSL) Region 5C First Team during the Falcons' run to the state championship match, she was also a 10-year academy forward at The St. James FC Virginia (TSJFCV).
"We are really excited to add Taylor to our team," said head coach Chugger Adair. "She is a hard-working, blue-collar forward who consistently creates for herself and her teammates.
"Taylor is not afraid to defend and put in the necessary work to be successful. She will be a great addition to our team and to our Tech family!"
As a center forward at Briar Woods, Price joined current Tech forward Sophie Maltese in co-leading the Falcons to the 2021 VHSL Class 5 state championship match. Price capped her 20-goal, 10-assist junior season by finding the back of the net twice during Briar Woods' bid for the title, despite the Falcons' ultimate defeat via penalty kicks.
Following her breakthrough 2021 campaign, Price coupled her all-region First Team selection with All-VHSL Conference 14 First Team honors. She also garnered Offensive Player of the Year praise, contrasting her Defensive Player of the Year accomplishment in basketball.
A seasoned academy player at TSJFCV, Price helped the club finish runner-up at the 2021 Girls Academy Under-17 national championship on top of claiming four conference titles. Additionally, she has been a Youth National Team ID Camp invitee.
What schools did you consider? "South Carolina, Virginia Tech and West Virginia."
Why Virginia Tech? "I chose Virginia Tech because when I attended ID camps, I loved the training environment along with the staff. I was drawn to Tech's style of play since it is similar to what I have played before. I also was looking mostly for an intense, high-level training environment that could challenge me as a player. Plus, Virginia Tech has a beautiful campus with a high-spirited student body that I want to be a part of."
What was your favorite takeaway from your visit to Blacksburg? "My favorite thing about my visit was being able to be in the locker room with the players and gain a feeling of what my experience will be like as I come into the program."
What do you like about the Tech women's soccer program? "What I liked most about the Tech women's soccer program was the environment that the coaching staff created. Their intense, competitive training environment and the feedback they offer push the players to always compete at the highest level they possibly can."
What are your soccer strengths? "My strengths as a soccer player are my abilities to hold the ball up in the attacking third, to attack balls in the air, to connect passes within the midfield and to make threatening runs behind lines of defenders."
Who is your favorite professional player? "My favorite professional player is Julie Ertz because she has a high soccer IQ along with a great work rate. She is always sticking into each tackle and is an outlet for her teammates in the midfield."
What is your most memorable soccer moment? "My most memorable soccer moment is when my club team (TSJFCV) and I made a run to the 2021 Girls Academy national championship match because we were faced with high competition and worked very well as a team. Taking it match by match, we all stepped up together and put our best performances on the pitch, fighting hard until the very end."
What are you interested in studying at Virginia Tech? "I want to major in business because I have always been interested in marketing and sales. I enjoy communicating with others and working hard to get things done."
