MADISON, WI --
The Virginia Tech women's basketball team got a 29-point showing from the bench on the way to a 70-60 victory over the Wisconsin Badgers on the road Wednesday.

The Hokies (7-1) had four players score in double figures, led by Azana Baines, who notched a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Elizabeth Kitley tacked on 13 points and Kayana Traylor helped out with 10 points off the bench.

Virginia Tech forced 14 Wisconsin turnovers while committing 13 themselves in Wednesday's game. The Hokies turned those takeaways into 13 points on the offensive end of the floor. Baines' one steal led the way for Virginia Tech.

How It Happened

After playing to a 3-3 tie early in the game, Virginia Tech went on an 8-0 run with 8:42 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Aisha Sheppard, to take an 11-3 lead. The Hokies then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 27-17 advantage. Virginia Tech relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down six shots to account for 18 of its 27 points.

Virginia Tech kept its first quarter lead intact before going on an 8-0 run starting at the 6:26 mark in the second period to increase its lead to 37-23. The Hokies kept that lead for the remainder of the period and enjoyed a 41-27 advantage heading into halftime. Virginia Tech forced three Wisconsin turnovers in the period and turned them into four points.

Virginia Tech continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Kitley, to expand its lead further to 57-43 with 1:21 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Badgers had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Hokies still entered the fourth quarter with a 57-45 edge. Virginia Tech played well near the basket, scoring 14 of its 16 points in the paint.

Virginia Tech kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Cayla King's three, to grow the lead to 62-47 with 5:44 to go in the contest. The Badgers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Hokies still cruised the rest of the way for the 70-60 win. Virginia Tech took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 13 points in the paint.
