BLACKSBURG – Elizabeth Kitley and Azana Baines each recorded double-doubles to help lead the Virginia Tech women's basketball team past the Radford Highlanders 89-40 at home Sunday.
The double-doubles by Kitley, who had 22 points and 10 rebounds, and Baines, who had 14 points and 12 rebounds, led the Hokies (8-3) in the contest. Kayana Traylor helped out with 15 points.
Kitley pulled down three offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Virginia Tech, grabbing 11 boards and turning them into 13 second chance points.
The Virginia Tech defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Sunday's game, forcing 22 Radford turnovers while committing six. Those takeaways turned into 30 points on the offensive end of the floor. Kitley's one steal led the way individually for the Hokies.

Virginia Tech started out the scoring by going on a 9-0 run, culminating in a bucket from Kitley, to take an early lead with 7:28 left in the first quarter. Virginia Tech kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 9-0 run starting at the 8:42 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Traylor, to increase its lead to 34-19. The Highlanders cut into that lead, but the Hokies still enjoyed a 40-29 advantage heading into halftime. Virginia Tech dominated in the paint, scoring 10 of its 15 points close to the basket.
Virginia Tech continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 17-0 run, punctuated by a three from Traylor, to expand its lead further to 60-35 with 19 seconds to go in the third, a score which remained until the end of the third quarter. Virginia Tech knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 20 total points.
Virginia Tech kept widening that lead, expanding it to 72-38 before going on a 10-0 run to grow the lead to 82-38 with 3:18 to go in the contest. The Hokies kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 89-40 win. Virginia Tech took advantage of seven Radford turnovers in the quarter, scoring 12 points off of those takeaways.
