THE SERIES
Virginia Tech has won both meetings with the Wildcats, the first game coming in 2004 in the Lady Luck Classic and the other in 2019, both at Cassell Coliseum.
A WIN WOULD...
Improve Tech's record in season openers to 35-10.
Be the Hokies' 7th straight season-opening win, dating back to 2015-16.
Be VT's 61st consecutive home win against a non-conference opponent. Coach Brooks is 44-0 in his tenure at VT in that situation.
KENNY BROOKS TO BEGIN THE SEASON
In his five seasons at VT, Brooks is 5-0 in the initial game of the season, owning an average margin of victory of 44.4 points per game.
His teams have scored 71 or more each time including three straight (2017-2019) 90+ point performances.
The 99-32 win over Wagner in the 2017-18 season opener still stands as the program's largest margin of victory for a single game (67 points).
Brooks is 15-4 in season openers and has not lost one since 2012-13.
WHO TO WATCH
The Hokies return their entire starting five from last season's NCAA Tournament squad with All-ACC players Aisha Sheppard, Elizabeth Kitley, as well as All-Freshman guard Georgia Amoore, Cayla King and Azana Baines.
Aisha Sheppard is back for one more go around in Blacksburg. The graduate student was Tech's second-best scorer a season ago at 17.2 ppg and led the conference in 3's with 87. Her 306 career 3's are a VT record and ranks sixth all-time in the annals of the ACC.
Elizabeth Kitley returns for her junior season. In her sophomore campaign she led Tech at 18.2 ppg and 10.4 rebounds. She recorded 13 double-doubles and scored 30 or more twice, the only ACC athlete to do so.
Transfers Kayana Traylor (Purdue) and Emily Lytle (Liberty) add to Tech's depth on the court this season. Traylor scored 771 points in three seasons as a Boilermaker and averaged 15.0 ppg. a season ago. Lytle scored over 1,000 points with the Flames.
Junior G/F Taylor Geiman is set to return to the floor. She played in eight games last season before a knee injury ended her year.
