San Juan, Puerto Rico --Elizabeth Kitley scored 21 points, but the Virginia Tech women's basketball team fell to the Missouri State Lady Bears 76-68 at Friday.
Kitley added nine rebounds to her 21 point game to lead the Hokies (5-1). Kayana Traylor helped out with 12 points and Azana Baines chipped in with six points and seven rebounds coming off the bench.
Baines pulled down five offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Virginia Tech, grabbing 13 boards and turning them into 16 second chance points.
Virginia Tech forced 18 Missouri State turnovers. The Hokies turned those takeaways into 10 points on the offensive end of the floor. Kitley's two steals were a team high.

Virginia Tech struggled out of the gate, falling behind 23-9 at the end of the first quarter.
Virginia Tech kept the Lady Bears from increasing their lead before going on a 9-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Baines, to narrow its deficit to 28-23. Missouri State responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Hokies trailing 36-26 heading into halftime.
Missouri State continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 52-35 advantage before Virginia Tech went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a three from Traylor, to trim its deficit to 52-40 with 53 seconds to go in the third. Missouri State countered and stretched its lead to 54-40 heading into the fourth. Virginia Tech knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 14 total points.
Virginia Tech kept the Lady Bears from increasing their lead before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Baines' layup, to shrink the deficit to 56-48 with 4:42 to go in the contest. The Hokies were unable to cut further into the deficit by the end of the game, losing 76-68. Virginia Tech took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 14 of its 28 points in the paint.
