BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women's basketball team will head to San Juan, Puerto Rico for two games at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente later this week. Tech will take on Missouri State Friday, November 26 and UT-Martin on Saturday, November 27.
The Bears are 3-1 on the season owning wins over Little Rock, North Texas and USC. They were picked first in the Missouri Valley Conference and guard Brice Calip is the league's preseason Player of the Year.
The Skyhawks are 3-2 with wins over North Carolina A&T, Western Kentucky and Illinois State. Both losses came against Power Five teams in Kansas State and Louisville.
Junior center Elizabeth Kitley earned ACC Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.Kitley averaged 20.5 points 10.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks across the Hokies' two wins last week. She also shot 66% from the field and connected on her first 3-point FG attempt of the season.
She ranks first in the ACC in points per game, second in field goal percentage, third in rebounds and is the leader in blocks with 18.
Program news and notes:
•Tech has registered wins of 45+ in two consecutive games for the first time in program history.
•The Hokies have scored 80+ in three straight games for the first time since doing so four times to open the 2020-21 season.
•VT has allowed less than 40 points in consecutive games for the first time since December 2015.
•Tech has allowed 57 or fewer points in five straight games for the first time since 2018-19. This is the first time in program history that the Hokies have done so in the first five games of a season.
