BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech men's basketball logged win No. 1,500 in program history in Sunday's 72-43 victory over Merrimack.
The win moved Tech's all-time tally to 1500-1243 (.547), dating back to its inaugural season in 1908-09.

- Eight players scored a 3-point field goal in Sunday's game. The last time that occurred was against Coppin State on Dec. 19, 2020.
- With late threes from Camden Johnson and Ben Varga, each member of the Hokies' squad has scored a point this season. Keve Aluma leads the way for Tech with 62 points.
SOLID, HISTORIC START
- Virginia Tech is now 5-0 for the second time in three years under head coach Mike Young. This is also the second time the Hokies have started 4-0 at home under Young, with a four-win start in Cassell also coming in 2019-20.
- The last time the Hokies won five games in a row, all by 20-plus points, was in 1943-44. Between Jan. 26 and Feb. 12, 1944, Tech rattled off six-consecutive wins by 20-plus points against VMI (twice), Blackstone Army Airfield, Woodrow Wilson Hospital, William & Mary and Emory & Henry.
CAUSE CHAOS
- Virginia Tech caused 15 turnovers on Sunday, a total that it's hit three times this season. In four of five games, the Hokies have forced 10-plus turnovers.
UP NEXT
The Hokies will travel to Brooklyn, N.Y. to face No. 9 Memphis in the NIT Season Tip-Off on Wednesday. This will be the first meeting between the two teams since 2005, when Memphis defeated Tech in the first round of the NIT.
