BLACKSBURG, VA --The Virginia Tech women's basketball team shot 55 percent from three-point range on the way to an 84-39 win over the Campbell Camels at home Saturday.

The Hokies (5-0) had three players score in double figures, led by Elizabeth Kitley, who had 28 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Aisha Sheppard added 16 points and four assists and Georgia Amoore chipped in as well with 14 points, four assists and two steals.

Virginia Tech out-rebounded Campbell 47-20 in Saturday's game, led by nine boards from Cayla King, a career-high. The Hokies also collected 13 offensive rebounds and scored 11 second chance points.

Virginia Tech's defense held Campbell to only 25.5 percent shooting from the field. The Lady Camels did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with four offensive rebounds and managed three second chance points while Virginia Tech cleared 34 defensive rebounds.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 7-6 advantage, Virginia Tech went on a 10-0 run with 6:57 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Kitley, to increase its lead to 17-6. The Hokies then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 26-13 advantage. Virginia Tech relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down five shots to account for 15 of its 26 points.

Virginia Tech kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 12-0 run starting at the 9:12 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Kitley, to increase its lead to 38-13. The Lady Camels cut into that lead, but the Hokies still enjoyed a 44-21 advantage heading into halftime. Virginia Tech dominated in the paint, scoring 10 of its 18 points close to the basket.

Following intermission, Virginia Tech continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 51-27 before going on a 10-0 run, punctuated by a three from King, to expand its lead further to 61-27 with 3:10 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Lady Camels had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Hokies still entered the fourth quarter with a 61-34 edge. Virginia Tech knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 17 total points.

Virginia Tech kept its lead intact before going on a 12-0 run to grow the lead to 75-37 with 5:21 to go in the contest. The Hokies kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 84-39 win. Virginia Tech took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 12 of its 23 points in the paint.
