Hokies take 3-0 setback at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, IND. – The Virginia Tech volleyball team fell in three sets to Notre Dame Sunday afternoon, taking a 25-14, 25-22, 25-20 setback. With the win, Notre Dame improves to 12-14 and 9-7 in the ACC. The Hokies fall to 11-18 on the year.
 
After a tough first set, the Hokies battled Notre Dame in the second, going point-for-point until the Irish took a 9-7 lead. From there, the Hokies couldn't recover and fell 25-22. The third set was also a battle as the two teams were tied 15 times throughout the set with four lead changes. The Irish pulled away at 16-15 to take the third set and the match.
 
The third set was the Hokies best offensive showing, hitting .278. Marisa Cerchio led the way with four kills, as Griere Hughes and Angel Robinson added three. Hughes ended her match with seven total kills and Cera Powell led Tech with nine. Robinson recorded a .462 hitting percentage, a team-high.
 
Defensively, Brie Postema had 15 digs and also led the team in assists with 26. The Hokies had four blocks, with Tasha Vipond recording four block assists in her three sets played.
 
For the Irish, Aubrey Hamilton led both teams with 15 kills and Phyona Schrader added 11. Hattie Monson had a match-high 21 digs and Zoe Nunez posted 33 assists.
 
The Hokies will play their home finale next Friday, hosting Wake Forest at 6 p.m.
