The Hokies (9-4-3, 3-4-1 ACC) are the No. 8 seed in the ACC field, while the Eagles (6-6-2, 2-4-2 ACC) hold the No. 9 spot. In their meeting on Oct. 1, neither side could find a breakthrough and the match ended 0-0 after 110 minutes of play.

Since last month's match, both teams have struggled to find a consistent run of form, each with three wins a piece. On the last night of ACC regular season play, both teams dropped road results. Boston College  fell in overtime to N.C. State (7-7-2, 1-5-2, ACC), while the Tech lost to No. 1-seeded Pitt (10-4-1, 5-2-1 ACC) after going down to 10 men early on.

Due to his first half sending off, Sivert Haugli will miss Wednesday's game. The senior defender has been pivotal to Virginia Tech's success this season – having played all 1444 minutes of competition until the red card.

Battling injuries and consistency in the starting lineup has plagued the Hokies recently, and despite missing Haugli, they will look for some stability to bring back the form that inspired the midseason seven-match unbeaten streak.

Wednesday's match will be streamed live on ACCNX with Bailey Angle and Josh Braun on the call.

The winner of Wednesday's contest will travel to Pitt on Sunday for a 4 p.m. quarterfinal match.
