BLACKSBURG – Leading up to the next game for Virginia Tech football, which takes on Miami (Fla) on Saturday in The Sunshine State, head coach Justin Fuente met with the media for a press conference on Monday. Read what they had to say below.
HEAD COACH JUSTIN FUENTE
Opening Statement:
"Really happy for our players, specifically our seniors for their last game in Lane Stadium. To find a way to get a victory was really nice. Plenty to learn from on the film, good and bad. Now we turn our attention to Miami which is a tremendous challenge going on the road, playing there in a night game. As hot as anybody in the country here recently. Got a little bit behind in the game last week, they fought and scratched and clawed all the way back and came up just a little bit short. High-powered office that likes to push the tempo. Obviously, Miami on defense, I think it starts with their defensive line and just how active and disruptive they are, all the way back to their secondaries. It's a huge challenge for us to get our guys ready to go play on the road."
On WR Tré Turner potentially having to drive to Miami:
"Yeah, it might be. The same old deal, we'll figure it out and see what the doctor says is best for him … We're not going to let him drive himself I can tell you that much, as much as Tré would like to. We'll figure out who's going to take him if that's what we've got to do."
On whether he's ever had to drive a player to a game before:
"Last year when we would have guys be positive while we were at the site, they couldn't come back with us. We had some of those things where guys had to drive back because of COVID. I had one kid at Memphis that couldn't come back with us, and I stayed with him. But I've never had this situation."
On OL Brock Hoffman's status:
"He's not out for the season. He'll work to get back so that he could play this weekend."
On Miami QB Tyler Van Dyke:
"I think he does a great job distributing the football, keeping guys on the outside of the ball and giving opportunities to go make plays. He seems to have a really good understanding of what they're doing. He's a big, strong-armed kid that throws the ball really well. He's done a really good job of allowing those guys on the outside to go make plays."
